After more than 15 years living in the “Matrix”-like city, the top actor reveals in an interview that he is ready to pack up and trade Hollywood to return home to Texas.
“You’re a function here,” the actor describes the nature of human interactions in Hollywood.
In his recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Top Gun star Glen Powell shared that he just turned over the keys to his home in Hollywood Hills as he geared to move back home to Austin, Texas, to be closer to his parents and finish his college degree at the University of Texas, a dream he put off as he chose to pursue his acting career.
For Powell, who is now at the peak of his career, this is the right time to leave as he had reached a stage “in Hollywood…that I can now leave Hollywood.”
“It’s like I’ve earned the ability to go back to my family.”
He added that he wants to escape from the “fishbowl feeling” of LA life.
“And I think you get enough of those that you just want to bring your family as close as possible — or run to them.”
Powell added that fellow Texan Matthew McConaughey encouraged his decision to move back to the Lone Star State.
“He’s like, ‘Hollywood is the Matrix, man. You plug in and it’s all fake world.’”
“He’s like, ‘Then I go to Austin, and I unplug. It’s all real. Those are my friends, that’s my family, my actions matter there.’ And he’s right.”
Powell continued, “If you’re here, you live in the Matrix all the time, there’s no separation of those worlds.”
“And for me, especially as my parents get older and my niece and nephew are growing up, I want a separation of those worlds.”
Powell is the latest Hollywood star to bid farewell to Hollywood.
Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes also recently moved out of LA for their children.
Even Hollywood icon Angelina Jolie expressed intent to pack up and leave California.
Before Gosling and Powell, Hollywood stars Mark Wahlberg, Sylvester Stallone, Rod Stewart, Scott Baio, Dean Cain, and Robert Davi had already said goodbye to LA.
The rising crime in the city, combined with poorly enforced criminal prosecution, has emboldened criminals, turning Democrat-led Los Angeles into a lawless city.
Los Angeles recently implemented a zero bail policy which allowed criminals to be back on the streets before serving prison time. Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon (D) also imposed a policy to help illegal aliens avoid deportation.
In California, thousands of families and businesses are moving out as taxes soar and crimes remain unresolved. Newsom’s leadership is currently experiencing a historical budget deficit of $28 billion.
