In a bid to force Texas to stand down on border crisis, President Joe Biden paused approval of new liquefied natural gas export permits for new projects.
Eco-hypocrite Biden cites “climate change as its motivating factor.” He also claimed that the pause intends to “take a hard look at the impacts of LNG exports on energy costs, America’s energy security, and our environment.”
However, Biden’s 17-second message was purely rhetorical and lacked actual data to support his claims of “environmental impact.”
Texas House Speaker Rep. Dade Phelan slammed this move and called it “complete disregard” of America’s energy security and communities like Southeast Texas, whose primary source of living comes from the industry.
Christi Craddick, Texas Railroad Commissioner, described Biden’s move as “Reckless. Irresponsible. Unacceptable.”
She also emphasized that Biden is not helping the environment but aiding Russia and Qatar, who are also LNG exporters.
Even fellow liberals opposed his decision. Texas State Rep. Eddie Morales (D-Eagle Pass) wrote on X, “While I believe climate change is a pressing issue, we cannot hold ourselves back when our competitors are not willing to do the same despite their overwhelming contributions to global emissions.”
Senator Ted Cruz hit Biden’s order, calling it a “blatant attack” on “America’s oil and gas industry and the American workers who sustain it.”
For Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, Biden’s decision is nothing more than retaliation against Texas.
“This reckless move is nothing more than retaliation against Texas — for standing up to this administration over the border crisis,” blasted Buckingham.
Rogan O’Handley also noted that this move is not a “coincidence.”
“He is suffocating Texas jobs because Gov. Abbott is protecting our border,” O’Handley wrote on X.
Governor Greg Abbott slammed Biden’s decision and called it a “gut punch to the hardworking men and women in the energy industry.”
Abbott further warned that the president’s “reckless decision” could “cause some countries to rely upon dirty coal as opposed to cleaner-burning natural gas.”
Biden and Department of Homeland Security warned Abbott of punitive sanctions if he failed to comply with the demand of the federal government to remove Texas’ National Guard.
LNG pause will also affect Louisiana which has several facilities in Cameron and Lake Charles that await sanction from the federal government. Without Biden’s permit, natural gas workers effectively lost their jobs.
Texas, along with Louisiana, leads in producing and exporting liquefied natural gas. It is the third-largest exporter of natural gas in the world.
The Lone Star holds around 23 percent of the nation’s natural gas reserves which is considered by most as more environmentally friendly than coal.
