Arizona GOP chairman Jeff DeWit was caught bribing Republican Senate Candidate Kari Lake in a secret recording.
DeWitt claims that “very powerful people” who are “back east”, who most likely refer to Republicans inside the Capitol, want the TV personality out of the Arizona senate race. He even enticed Lake, saying they were willing to pay her big-time.
DeWit, who even thought of asking secrecy, was heard asking Lake if “there is a [dollar] number” for which she would abandon her candidacy.
“Just say, is there a number at which…,” says the chairman. Before Lake cuts him off and asks him directly: “I can be bought? That’s what it’s about?”
To which the chairman responded, “Pause for a couple of years.”
Lake stood firm and said: “Ten million? Twenty million? Thirty? No…a billion? No.”
She added that her run for the senate is not about the money. Lake also called DeWit’s offer “disturbing.”
But DeWit did not stop. He pursued Lake, sharing that the D.C. Republicans see her as not “being on the team.”
“I think what it really comes down to for a lot of people, it’s not about like control or agenda,” Dewit added.
“It’s about the ability to raise money to win.”
Lake slammed DeWit and said, “I’m not going to let these people who hate our f—–g country tell me not to run.
The chairman also attempted to offer her a “cushy corporate job,” if she pledged to stay out of Arizona politics for two years.
Lake turned him down and said: “I don’t want to make a deal with these kinds of people. This is a hill worth dying on.”
“I’m not … if they’re gonna steal the election to make me and our movement go away. I’m not letting them do that.”
“I owe it to the people of Arizona to carry their torch and voice.”
The conversation lasted for ten minutes.
“I think this is about defeating Trump! And I think that’s a bad, bad thing for our country,” exclaimed Lake.
After the exposé, the Arizona senate candidate called on DeWit to resign.
“He’s gotta resign. We can’t have somebody corrupt and compromised running the Republican Party,” exclaimed Lake during an interview with an NBC report.
The chair of Maricopa County GOP also echoed the call and said, “If this is, in fact, true, I’m asking AZ GOP chairman Jeff DeWit to resign.”
Kari Lake was a regular Fox News host. She supports Trump’s 2020 election fraud sentiment and has been vocal against the rising inflation, economy, and border crisis.
In October 2023, she announced her Senate campaign. As election season opens, Lake earlier shared that extraordinary efforts were being made to keep her out of the race.
I would not vote for Lake in either the Primary or General Election because of her lack of political experience and because her polarizing rhetoric may hinder her ability to effectively collaborate with others in the Senate. These two factors, I feel, may impact her capacity to serve the diverse interests of Arizona residents.
