An investigation into Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz’s alleged relationship with a 17-year-old girl years earlier began in 2020.
Though Gaetz denies any wrongdoing, The New York Times reported in March 2021 that Gaetz was being investigated by the DOJ for having a sexual relationship with a young girl and allegedly paying for her travels with him that took her across state lines.
The case was dropped in part because of credibility issues facing the two main witnesses.
Gaetz appeared on the Fox News program, “Ingraham Angle” and spoke out about the one-sided biases of the mainstream media.
He said, “I don’t really take my Ps and Qs from the mainstream media. For the last two years, I’ve been fighting for my constituents, and the mainstream media largely has been like a refuge for scoundrels and weirdos.”
The congressman can take a victory lap after learning that the Justice Department has concluded its investigation and they will not pursue any charges against him.
Gaetz discussed the Project Veritas video exposing CNN for their unfair treatment of him.
“Project Veritas got a CNN director on an undercover video saying that the reason the media was propagandizing my life and telling these lies about me breathlessly over and over is because I’m effective at impacting legislation,” he told Ingraham.
He discussed the targeting of Republicans and how they have to fight back saying, “I drew great inspiration from the way President Trump didn’t let the process become the punishment. He forged ahead to institute policies regarding our border, regarding our economy.”
Gaetz said, “I also look to the mentorship of my friend Jim Jordan, who also faced totally false allegations and was in a position where he continued to lead on critical Republican efforts.”
Gaetz concluded by saying that as a member of the Judiciary Committee, he is “focused on the weaponization of this government against our people.”
Being one of their targets, he knows firsthand how detrimental this weaponization is to Americans who are entitled to fair and equal treatment under the law.
Following the Times report, Gaetz tweeted, “Over the past several weeks my family and I have been victims of an organized criminal extortion involving a former DOJ official seeking $25 million while threatening to smear my name. We have been cooperating with federal authorities in this matter.”
Will Witt, Editor in Chief of The Florida Standard, wrote an opinion piece entitled, “How the Mainstream Media Lied About the Matt Gaetz Case.”
In it, he called out news outlets saying, “In order to score political points and smear Republicans, The Daily Beast operated as an agent of the Democratic Party when its staff twisted, omitted, and obfuscated key information about the case.
“But the evidence wasn’t there. Nor was ethical, balanced reporting from many outlets. Many in the media need to stop letting the Twitter mob dictate the tone of their coverage.”
The Twitter mob is often way too loud and way too powerful. We need real journalists to stand up to the mob and objectively do their job.
One-sided journalism must end and give way to objectivity that will lead to credibility. Americans need to have trust in the media.
