Like majority of Democrats in the Biden administration, the Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg advocates for “zero emissions” green energy. Though, a watchdog group observing his activities closely, states that there is contradiction between his words and deeds.
According to a report by Fox News Digital, Buttigieg “has taken at least 18 flights using taxpayer-funded private jets since taking office.” Moreover, Now he is summoned to give a brief explanation on his regular use of the resources.
The flight tracking data assessed by the media outlet unveils that Buttigieg used a private jet fleet led by the Federal Aviation Administration to move across the country, or to visit Florida, New Hampshire, and Ohio, plus international trips.
The Government watchdog organization, Americans for Public Trust, also got the flight records in line with Buttigieg’s timetable of public engagements.
According to a report by Politico, previous U.S. President Donald Trump’s representative, Elaine Chao, who was the Secretary of Transportation at that time, also got grilled during her tenure for using the private jets same as Buttigieg is doing currently.
Similarly the former Health and Human Services Secretary under Trump’s presidency used 26 private jets in the same year and that ended up him signing his resignation.
According to the outlet:
“Bipartisan leaders on the House Oversight and Reform Committee had opened an investigation into several senior Trump administration officials’ use of government-owned and private aircraft for travel days before Price submitted his letter of resignation.”
Executive director of Americans for Public Trust, Caitlin Sutherland stated:
“Everyday Americans face flight [cancellations] and long wait times because Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has completely mismanaged air travel.”
She added:
“Yet, he gets to avoid all that by taking taxpayer-funded private jets to destinations with readily available commercial airline options.”
She added further:
“And for someone so holier-than-thou on reducing emissions, Buttigieg sure doesn’t seem to mind the pollution caused by his literal jet-setting. This is hypocrisy at its finest, and these troubling expenses to taxpayers must come under immediate scrutiny.”
On Monday, another report by Fox News noted that the inspector general from the Department of Transportation set Buttigieg under strict investigations on his regular use of private jets.
