Border Traitor Mitch McConnell Calls It Quits as Senate GOP Leader

“It’s time for the next generation of leadership.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) is stepping down from Republican leadership by the end of 2024.

McConnell, who was about Biden’s age, 82 years old, announced his resignation as Senate Minority leader during a privileged speech, citing his age.

“Father time remains undefeated. I’m no longer the young man sitting in the back hoping colleagues would remember my name,” McConnell said.

Early this month, McConnell suffered an intense backlash as he endorsed the Senate Border Bill which is muddled with billions of funding for Biden’s war in Ukraine, Israel, and other allies.

Fellow Republicans tore into McConnell who voted to pass the $95 billion “foreign aid” package while disregarding the chaos that is in their backyard, Biden’s “open border.”

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) slammed the 82-year-old senator and said, “When we entered this thing, McConnell said his top priority was funding for Ukraine. But public opinion and the very strong political rhetoric that we ought to secure our own border before we spend $60 billion to secure Ukraine’s was effective. And so McConnell finally switched and said, ‘OK, we’ve got to let Democrats know that we are serious. We are going to defeat closure on this bill, and we are going to demand that border security is going to be attached to funding for Ukraine.”

“Then secret negotiations occurred on an issue the public supports Republicans on, and we end up with this monstrosity of a bill.”

We had it all laid out. We had a proposal. We had a great deal of support at our conference, but what [Sen.] Mike Lee pointed out is unbeknownst to us at the time, McConnell told [Sen. James] Lankford (R-Okla.) that that’s not even on the table,” Sen. Johnson further said.

Ultimately explaining why the GOP is seething with anger against the Senate minority leader, “And that moment of leverage we had where we could use Biden’s desire for Ukraine funding to actually force him to use his executive authority to secure the border has been lost, and that is why so many of us are speaking out against McConnell.”

During a press conference on February 7 related to the border bill fiasco, Texas Senator Ted Cruz called for McConnell to step down.

Cruz said, “I think a Republican leader should actually lead this conference and should advance the priorities of Republicans.”

His sentiments were also echoed by Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), Mike Lee (R-UT), Ron Johnson (R-WI), JD Vance (R-OH), Roger Marshall (R-KN) and Eric Schmitt (R-MO).
