Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger informed the media that subpoenas could be issued shortly. Raffensperger, who is running for reelection in 2022, spearheaded a successful campaign in 2019 to reinforce Georgia’s restrictions on ballot harvesting in anticipation of the 2020 presidential election, defeating an attempt by renowned Democrat lawyer Marc Elias to invalidate the ballot harvesting rule. Raffensperger also evaluated and previously dismissed charges made by former President Donald Trump claiming that there was massive fraud during the 2020 election in a series of contracts under examination by an Atlanta district attorney and a congressional select committee on Jan. 6.
Raffensperger’s office did in fact receive an In-depth allegation from the conservative voter integrity group named “True the Vote” on Nov. 30 saying it had collected information that results of activist groups did work with charitable organizations to obtain and convey large numbers of absentee ballots to interim voting drop boxes scattered throughout the state even during a pandemic.
The organization also engaged with a Georgia county official who openly admits to being paid thousands of dollars to gather ballots in the Atlanta metropolitan region during the November election and on the roll for the January 5, 2021, election for Georgia’s two U.S. Senate seats, both of which have been won by Democrats, essentially ending GOP control of Government. The organization has yet to identify the confidential informant to state officials, referring to him just as John Doe in the accusation.
According to guidelines published by major Media outlets, the group made aware the secretary that such evidence would include surveillance video from security cameras implanted by counties outside the drop boxes, along with geolocation data for the mobile phones of much more than 200 activists seen on the tape recordings presented. In addition, the times and dates of ballot drop-offs. Media outlets reported that thanks to actions taken by the state ahead of the Nov. 3, 2020, election, valuable video evidence that was crucial and needed to bust the case wide open was suddenly vanished.
