A masked man with a rifle thought he was going to rob a Norco, California market.
He ordered the 80-year-old owner to raise his hands and get prepared to be robbed.
However, the owner had other plans.
The owner grabbed a shotgun and opened fire on the robber, sending him running and screaming, “he shot my arm off, he shot my arm off!”
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement that said:
On Sunday, July 31, 2022, at about 2:47 AM, deputies from the Norco Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of an attempted armed robbery at a business located in the 800 block of 6th Street.
The investigation was corroborated by surveillance video and revealed four armed suspects arrived at the business in a dark-colored vehicle. These suspects approached the business entrance armed with long guns wearing facial coverings and hoods.
Immediately upon entering the business with the rifles pointed at the ready, an employee inside the business fired a single shot from a shotgun, causing the suspects to flee the business.
With the assistance of another law enforcement agency, the suspects were located at a hospital in the Southern California region, one of whom was suffering from a gunshot wound consistent with a shotgun blast.
The report also mentioned that there were three other suspects in a vehicle that had been previously reported stolen.
In the vehicle, they found numerous stolen firearms as well.
The other three suspects were taken into police custody in the hospital parking lot and were booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center for robbery and conspiracy. They are being held on a $500,000 bail.
These three accomplices are:
Justin Johnson, 22-years old resident of Inglewood, CA
Jamar Williams, a 27-year-old resident of Los Angeles, CA
Davon Broadus, 24-year-old resident of Las Vegas, NV
The primary suspect is still in the hospital in critical condition, and his identity has not been released.
The report added:
In this case, a lawfully armed member of our community prevented a violent crime and ensured their own safety, while being confronted with multiple armed suspects.
This investigation is active and ongoing and no additional information will currently be released.
Anyone with additional information regarding this arrest is encouraged to contact either Investigator Komins or Investigator Morgan at the Jurupa Valley Station,” the statement said.
According to one of the store’s employees, the owner suffered a heart attack because of the events, but he is expected to make a full recovery.
The owner’s identity has not been revealed, as well.
Tamara Gibbons, an employee of the Norco Market wasn’t there when this happened.
“It does make me want to get more protection myself,” Gibbons said. “Now that they caught the guy, we’re all holding up pretty good, but before that, we were kind of iffy being in here, especially by ourselves.”
“It shows older people that they can stick up for themselves,” Gibbons said.
“Just because of your age doesn’t mean that you aren’t capable of doing something like this.”
Another instance of a good guy with a gun protecting himself and others from a bad guy with one.
