
Actor and hoaxer Jussie Smollett has been found guilty on 5 of the 6 charges in the hate crime trial.
The 39-year-old actor was charged with six counts of disorderly conduct related to false statements to the Chicago Police Department (CPD) In 2019, he claimed that two men wearing red hats and chanting “MAGA Country” attacked him because of his skin color and sexual orientation.
Smollett has maintained his innocence and said during his testimony that “there was no hate crime hoax from my standpoint.”
Prosecutors argued that Smollett carried a “dry run” attack the day before it occurred in 2019.
During his testimony, Smollett also revealed that he received text messages from CNN anchor Don Lemon who allegedly shared information with him that the Chicago Police Department isn’t believing his story.
One of the alleged attackers, also claimed that Smollett previously purchased drugs from him and also “made out” with the actor at a gay bathhouse.
