GOP lawmakers from Kentucky have passed Senate Legislation 150, which will be responsible for putting a permanent ban on hormone therapies and gender switching surgeries for under-aged Americans.
The legislation sent to the Democratic Governor of Kentucky, Andy Beshear also contains conditions regarding the compulsion to share information among schools and guardians.
The legislation also prohibits the use of preferred pronouns by school teachers.
According to a report by CNN, Gov. Beshear is against the legislation, though, the majority of GOP members can easily nullify his dismissal.
The legislation quoted minors and clarified sex as:
“The biological indication of male and female as evidenced by sex chromosomes, naturally occurring sex hormones, gonads, and non-ambiguous internal and external genitalia present at birth.”
It also mentioned that a health care specialist must not provide trans surgeries and hormonal therapies just for the sake of changing appearances or justifying “a minor’s perception of, the minor’s sex if that appearance or perception is inconsistent with the minor’s sex.”
The following are the limitations of a healthcare provider:
(a) Prescribe or administer any drug to delay or stop normal puberty;
(b) Prescribe or administer testosterone, estrogen, or progesterone, in amounts greater than would normally be produced endogenously in a healthy person of the same age and sex;
(c) Perform any sterilizing surgery, including castration, hysterectomy, oophorectomy [removal of ovaries], orchiectomy [removal of testicles], penectomy, and vasectomy;
(d) Perform any surgery that artificially constructs tissue having the appearance of genitalia differing from the minor’s sex, including metoidioplasty, phalloplasty, and vaginoplasty; or
(e) Remove any healthy or non-diseased body part or tissue.
The bill also permits legal action in case of any injury that resulted from violating the newly imposed law.
