Kyle Rittenhouse is once again making headlines as he is now shifting his focus towards Joe Biden, as well as several other celebrities for defamation. According to Todd McMurtry, a lawyer who represented Nicholas Sandmann, the student that was attacked by CNN along with other mainstream media outlets for smiling while wearing a “MAGA” hat when confronted by a Native American, said Kyle Rittenhouse could have a case against Joe Biden.
For reference to Sandmann, according to Fox News, “Sandmann, a Kentucky resident, and CNN settled a $250 million defamation lawsuit in January 2020 over the network’s coverage of his viral confrontation with a Native American man in Washington D.C. A video clip showed Sandmann wearing a “MAGA” hat around his classmates and smiling at Nathan Phillips, who was beating a drum and singing at the Lincoln Memorial,”
When referring to having a case against Joe Biden, McMurtry was talking about a tweet made by Joe Biden where then-candidate Biden wrote “There’s no other way to put it: the President of the United States refused to disavow white supremacists on the debate stage last night.”
This was accompanied by a video that showed video footage of white nationalists marching in Charlottesville along with pictures including one of Kyle Rittenhouse.
McMurtry said, “What you take from that tweet is that Kyle Rittenhouse was using his rifle and engaging in White supremacist misconduct so it’s actionable. Not necessarily going to win, but it’s actionable,”
In addition, because Joe Biden was a candidate at the time, McMurtry added that Biden would not have presidential or congressional immunity for his remarks/actions.
This has led to a recent Rittenhouse tweet where he said “I have a new announcement coming soon about my defamation cases, keep an eye on Fox News and http://TMAP.org for more this week. Johnny Depp trial is just fueling me, you can fight back against the lies in the media, and you should!”
