Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., reacted on Sunday to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s warning that members of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol incident stand a real prospect of incarceration, according to The Hill. Cheney tweeted, “A former Speaker of the House is threatening to imprison members of Congress who are investigating the awful January 6 attack on our Capitol and our Constitution.”

Cheney’s statement came after Gingrich’s interview on Fox News earlier that day, in which he predicted that if Republicans retake control of Congress in 2022, they will avenge the subpoenas and charges made against famous conservative figures. “There will be a Republican majority in the House and a Republican majority in the Senate,” Gingrich said. “And subpoenas will be served on all of these people who have been so tough, harsh, and disagreeable.”

According to CNN, the Jan. 6 committee has scrutinized numerous members of the former president’s closest circle, including former White House head of staff Mark Meadows, former Trump adviser and Breitbart CEO Steve Bannon, and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
