Documents discovered by Special Report revealed what was going on in the outbreak’s early phases. New doubts have been raised regarding what American scientists and federal health authorities understood about the origins of the coronavirus, as well as if contradictory data was repressed or withheld from the public. Fox News Special Report with Bret Baier delves into the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, examining documents obtained that reveal Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was warned early on that the virus could have originated in a Wuhan, China laboratory.
According to Baier’s timeline, Fauci was notified on January 27, 2020, that his NIAID had indirectly sponsored the Wuhan lab through EcoHealth, a scientific non-profit located in the United States that deals with novel coronaviruses. Dr. Kristian Andersen, a well-known Scripps Lab virologist, privately alerted Fauci on January 31 that, after consulting with his colleagues, many COVID-19 features appeared to be purposeful, and the “genome is incongruent with predictions from evolutionary theory.” Andersen added that the matter needed to be looked into further, at which point Fauci convened an all-hands-on-deck conference call with colleagues, during which he was informed that potentially dangerous research with the new coronavirus may not have received adequate biosafety review and oversight.
Fauci first opposed the lab leak scenario, and Special Study uncovered that two writers of the scientific study mentioned by Fauci were in frequent touch with him and received millions of dollars from his agency. A year later, President Biden charged the US intelligence agency with examining the origins of COVID, but the report was inconclusive, owing in part to China’s refusal to cooperate. The Special Report’s conclusions reflect outrage in the scientific community due to a lack of openness and incomplete or misleading facts, as Republican senators on Capitol Hill demand additional information on what the federal government knew about the virus’s origins and when.
