The GOP Rep. from Nebraska, Don Bacon, and the GOP Rep. from Iowa, Zach Nunn, are demanding an investigation after the news of the improper release of military files at the time of midterm campaign season reached them.
While talking with Politico, Beacon stated:
“I understand the evidence has been turned over to the Department of Justice and I expect those who break the law to be prosecuted.”
He also stated:
“This was more than just ‘dirty tricks’ by Democrat operatives, but likely violations of the law.”
Nunn informed the media outlet:
“The recent targeting of Members of Congress’s personnel military records [and] the breach of sensitive data … taken by political hacks isn’t only a violation of public trust — it’s criminal.”
Beacon is looking for an investigation into an opposition research organization, Due Diligence, and is directly-linked to the Democrats.
The Air force pointed out an individual, Abraham Payton, who also served Due Diligence, and the person who wrongly demanded Bacon’s records. This request by Payton was inappropriately honored by the Air Force.
According to the report by Politico, the Federal Election Commission records revealed that from Jan. 2021 to Dec. 2022, the House Democratic Campaign handed over $110,000 to Due Diligence.
GOP Reps. Nunn and Bacon, were included in those 11 individuals whose records were improperly released.
The spokesperson for the Air Force, Ann Stefanek, stated that “virtually all” 11 were leaked to the same third party that requested the records.
A letter to Bacon from the U.S. Air Force Major General Troy Dunn, reads in part:
“The Air Force Personnel Center Military Records Branch received multiple requests from Abraham Payton, Background Investigative Analyst with Due Diligence, LLC, for your military records,”
The letter added:
“[Payton] inappropriately requested copies of your military records.”
The Politico reported that before even making a request for Bacon’s records, Payton already had his Social Security number.
Payton previously worked as a research director for American Bridge, which is a Democratic political group.
The letter also added:
“There was no criminal action or malicious intent by the [Air Force] employee in the records breach.”
It was also reported that the Air Force told both Reps. Nunn and Bacon of the “unauthorized release” of their military records.
