A second GOP council member has lost his life by getting shot in an apparent murder-suicide, nearly a week after the tragic shooting of Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour.
51-years old Russel Heller had been an integral part of the Milford Borough Council for almost the last 3-years.
On Wednesday, at around 7 a.m, police found Heller shot dead in the parking lot of a local PSE&G where he used to work, located in Somerset.
Heller worked as a senior distribution supervisor at PSE&G for the last 11 years.
According to the police, they have identified the person who shot Heller to death. They believe that another employee of PSE&G, Gary Curtis, is the one who killed Heller as the police discovered Curtis’ dead body in his car just a few hours after, and it looked like Curtis died because of a self-inflicted injury.
The police also stated that they think “Heller was the intended target,” however, they have not discovered the motivation behind the crime at the moment.
Condolence messages poured from several leaders.
New Jersey’s Gov. Phil Murphy sent “thoughts and prayers” to Heller’s “family and friends in the wake of this tragic act of gun violence.”
Congressman Tom Kean tweeted:
“I am shocked and saddened by the tragic murder of Milford Councilman Russell Heller. Russell was an outstanding public servant who proudly represented the river town he loved. My prayers are with his family and the Milford community.”
The brutal murder of Dwumfour, who was shot dead earlier this month in her car that was parked right outside her home, has still not been solved.
