According to FOX News, ‘Douglas Lewis has been taken into custody Friday afternoon near the Lake Forest Yacht Club after being spotted walking through the East Bay Apartments by a citizen, the Daphne Police Department announced on its Facebook page. Officers located and arrested him without incident, police said.’
Investigators said that the child, who is just five years of age, was rushed to the hospital after being injured in the Park City area that is located off of Pine Hill Rd. The child was injured around 8 am Tuesday and is being listed as in critical condition due to severe bruising on his face/back, along with brain bleeding.
According to Sergeant Jason Vannoy, “That is our primary concern with the bruising and how this child was treated,” he also said, “It certainly looks like, at this point, it is a physical assault, but we are going to get more into that as the investigation moves on.”
He also said, it was a “very serious head injury. I would say, you know, life altering circumstances. It’s one of the worst we’ve seen,” he also said “he did have surgery on his brain. Part of his skull was removed to let the swelling go down.”
He went on to say, “It’s tough to see a five-year-old with this amount of trauma,” said Vannoy. “It’s very concerning. It shocks the conscious.”
According to an update from FOX, ‘new charges have been filed against Douglas Lewis, a convicted sex offender, who is wanted by Daphne police in connection to a case of suspected child abuse.’
