It seems to have just been getting worse and worse for embattled WNBA player Brittney Griner. As a quick catch up, the athlete was notoriously arrested back on February 17th, 2022 in Russia. This occurred after the Federal Security Service discovered vaporizer cartridges that contained hash oil. Hash oil, it should be said, is legal in the United States. However, it is illegal in Russia. He was summarily detained and is currently awaiting trial. But it doesn’t seem to be ending there.
In response to this, which has inexplicably, become national news, former President Donald Trump is chiming in with his thoughts on Griner and the whole situation.
It is now being reported that former President Donald Trump said WNBA star Brittney Griner was “spoiled” and that President Joe Biden was making a bad trade with the potential prisoner swap for the Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, the “Merchant of Death.”
In a recent interview that Trump gave Saturday, he said “it certainly doesn’t seem like a very good trade, does it?” before saying she admitted carrying drugs in Russia, “she admitted it.”
Trump went on to elaborate that “She knew you don’t go in there loaded up with drugs, and she admitted it. I assume she admitted it without too much force because it is what it is, and it certainly doesn’t seem like a very good trade, does it?”
“He’s absolutely one of the worst in the world, and he’s gonna be given his freedom because a potentially spoiled person goes into Russia loaded up with drugs.”
“She went in there loaded up with drugs into a hostile territory where they’re very vigilant about drugs.”
“They don’t like drugs.”
“And she got caught.”

“And now we’re supposed to get her out — and she makes, you know, a lot of money, I guess.
“We’re supposed to get her out for an absolute killer and one of the biggest arms dealers in the world.
“Killed many Americans. Killed many people,” Trump said.
Mike Pompeo said: “He’s a bad guy. He is a guy who wanted to kill Americans.
“It presents a real risk to the United States.”
“There’s a real reason the Russians want to get him home.
“To offer a trade like this is a dangerous precedent.
“This is not a good trade, not the right path forward, and it’ll likely lead to more,” he said.
The Associated Press went on to report that:
The WNBA star and two-time Olympic gold medalist returns to court on Tuesday, a month after the beginning of the trial in which she could face 10 years in prison if convicted. As the trial has progressed, the Biden administration has faced rising calls for action to win her release.
In an extraordinary move, Secretary of State Antony Blinken last week spoke to his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, urging him to accept a deal under which Griner and Paul Whelan, an American imprisoned in Russia on an espionage conviction, would go free.
So, Trump is sounding off and the future of Griner remains uncertain. It does seem mandatory to mention that Griner has been, to put it mildly, anti-american. While she is of course still an america, this is a footnote that can not, and frankly should not, be overlooked.
Brittney Griner doesn’t seem to ant to pay the consequences for committing a crime and how seeks exculpation from the Biden administration. We will have to see what this ends up looking like
