South Dakota Republican Senator and the Senate Minority Whip Sen. John Thune said this week that Republicans “welcome” President Trump’s help in taking back the majority in the Senate. But, warned that repeating claims about the 2020 presidential elections being stolen “takes our eyes off the ultimate prize.”
“President Trump still has a tremendous following among our supporters across the country and, you know, exercises that influence, or at least attempts to, on a daily basis,” Sen. Thune told Fox News. “But I think ultimately for us as Republican senators our job right now is to try to get the majority back in 2022 and provide that check and balance against this crazy Biden administration agenda.” He added.
Sen. Thune announced this week his reelection bid ahead of the 2022 mid-terms. There were many rumors of him stepping down this year because of family issues. There are many speculations that Thune will be the next Senate Majority Leader if Republicans take back the Senate. Thune will be potentially replacing Republican Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell as the top Republican in the Senate if GOP gains the majority.
“To the degree that President Trump can be helpful, can contribute to,” taking back the Senate, we welcome that,” Thune said.
“But I think any time we’re talking about the 2020 election and rehashing that, it takes our eyes off the ultimate prize. And so I think most Republican senators understand that in order for us to be successful as a country that we have to get the majority back in the Senate and that means focusing on the future not the past,” he said. “We welcome the former president’s support of that, but would hope that he would play a constructive role and contribute to helping us win the majority back in 2022.” He added.
With current factors like Biden’s all-time low approval ratings, massive inflation, a weaker economy, and many other issues under the leadership of Joe Biden and Democrat majority in both chambers of Congress, hopes of a red-wave and Republicans getting in the majority are very high.
As results from recent state elections like Virginia and New Jersey, Republicans’ message seems to be resembling with people as Democrats push for radical-leftist agendas every day.
“We think it’s critical to the country that there’ll be a check and balance against this crazy radical agenda that the Biden White House and Democrats in Congress are trying to advance,” Thune said in a Fox News interview.
President Trump is holding a rally in Arizona today. It remains to be seen his reactions to Sen. Thune’s request and if he endorses anyone for the mid-terms in November.

I agree with Senator Thine that it’s time to look to the future. We can’t change the past but learn the lessons we learned. The fighting needs to end between the parties and our government must work for the good of all of the people. I think most of us are tired of nothing getting done to solve the issues and problems facing our world.
