Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh was recently shamed and laughed at by his critics for his pro-life stance.

He spoke at a pro-life fundraising event in Michigan and mentioned that if anyone he knew in his life had an unplanned pregnancy that he and his wife would gladly “raise that baby.”

He said, “I’ve told them the same thing I tell my kids, boys, the girls, same thing I tell our players, our staff members. I encourage them if they have a pregnancy that wasn’t planned, to go through with it, go through with it.”

He offered to raise the baby if someone didn’t have the means to do so themselves.

“Let that unborn child be born and if at that time, you don’t feel like you can care for it, you don’t have the means or the wherewithal, then Sarah and I will take that baby.”

“Any player on our team, any female staff member or any staff member or anybody in our family or our extended family that doesn’t feel like after they have a baby they can take care of it, we got a big house.”

He continued in his speech about how he is not afraid to talk about abortion.

“The abortion issue is one that’s so big that it needs to be talked about. It’s a life or death type of issue. And I believe in, and I respect, people’s views. But let’s hear them.”

“Let’s discuss them because there’s passion on both sides of this issue. So when you combine that with respect, that’s when the best results come. I’m just contributing to that conversation and that communication, which I think is really important, in my opinion,” he said.

He said that he loves life and that he has loving care and respect for life and death.

“I believe in having the courage to let the unborn be born,” Harbaugh said at the event last week, according to Detroit Catholic.

Harbaugh was asked by ESPN at Big Ten media days about his comments and he said the considers abortion to be “the most horrendous thing I could possibly conceive.”

Abortion is legal in Michigan. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has filed a lawsuit to make sure that the overturning of Roe v. Wade doesn’t take effect in her state.

In a press release from today Whitmer had this to say:

“Right now, abortion remains safe and legal in Michigan because of a court order temporarily blocking enforcement of the state’s 1931 abortion ban,” said Governor Whitmer. “But in the wake of the decision in Dobbs overturning Roe, certain county prosecutors and health providers have expressed confusion about the current legal status of abortion in Michigan. This only underscores the need for the Michigan Supreme Court to act now, which is why I sent a noticeto the court urging them to immediately take up my lawsuit and decide if access to abortion is protected under the Michigan Constitution. Getting this done will put an end to any confusionand ensure that Michiganders, health providers, and prosecutors understand the law.”

There is still much confusion from state to state on how to handle the recent ruling.
