Whoopi Goldberg threatened to leave “The View” following more backlash about a joke she made about South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham being gay and getting married to another man.
“I should probably never do this show again if this is what it’s coming to,” Goldberg said. “It was a joke, guys, you know.”
“Sometimes I make jokes, and it was a joke,” Goldberg said. “Nothing more than that.”
Goldberg was making a joke about a popular rumor that Graham is gay.
her comment came after White House Press Secretary Karine-Jean Pierre who said, “Senator Graham had said maybe about a month ago, early August, that he believes when it comes to marriage, when it comes to abortion, it’s for states to decide.”
“So, Senator Graham, what changed?” Pierre asked.
Goldberg responded, “Well, maybe he’s getting married. Do it quick, because I know people are fooling around with our marriage rights, whoever, wherever you stand, you know.”
“I mean OK,” she said. “I should probably never do this show again if this is what it’s coming to.”
“It was a joke, guys, you know,” she said.
This isn’t the first time Goldberg’s comments have gotten her in trouble on the show and with fans.
During a recent episode, Goldberg said that she thinks people are racist because they don’t like the new Amazon “Lord Of the Rings” and “Game Of Thrones” spinoff called “House of the Dragon.”
She said critics don’t like that there are black actors in the shows.
“Are you telling me black people can’t be fake people, too?” Goldberg said, in reference to how the actors play hobbits. “I don’t know if there’s, like, a hobbit club, I don’t know if there are gonna be protests. But people: What is wrong with y’all?”
“It’s just racist. Call it what it is,” Joy Behar said.
The real reason is that critics say the shows have “clunky dialogue, bad acting, poor storytelling, and a lack of depth.” No review takes issue with the race of the actors.
“What I think is fascinating is like, dragons are OK, fire-breathing dragons, and people with white hair that are born like that when they’re little, and violet eyes, but the black people in it is just a bridge too far for these folks,” co-host Sunny Hostin said.
Goldberg added, “All of y’all who have problems because there are black hobbits? Get a job!” she said. “Get a job! Go find yourself, because you are focused on the wrong stuff.”
Goldberg and Joy Behar have been taking hit after hit for their unintelligent comments and takes on the show. Earlier this year Goldberg was suspended from the show for a time.
