[UPDATE] Chris Christie, the former New Jersey candidate, callously attacked fellow Republican presidential nominees before he announced he was backing out from the race.
Christie was speaking to Wayne MacDonald, his campaign’s New Hampshire chair and former New Hampshire Republican Party chairman, and a woman while he unwittingly blurted on a hot mic, “And she’s going to get smoked, and you and I both know this, she’s not up to this.”
Although he did not name-dropped anybody, everyone knows he is talking about UN Ambassador Nikki Haley. He also said that DeSantis called him up sounding “petrified.”
The former New Jersey governor predicts that Republican
leading candidate Donald Trump will win Iowa, a state where DeSantis needs to deliver a strong performance if he wants to remain in the competition.
Wayne also commented that Haley was trailing Trump by 20 points. He also told Christie that DeSantis would leave the 2024 competition after the Iowa caucus, scheduled on December 15.
The two GOP personalities did not notice that their microphone was on while they continued to slander Republican nominees.
Christie also commented on how much million Haley and DeSantis spent on their campaign ads. He said, “We know we’re right, but they don’t wanna hear it. We couldn’t have been any clearer, we couldn’t have worked any harder… And look, she’s spent $68 million so far, just on TV… and we’ve spent 12. I mean, who’s punching above their weight?”
Then, the feed was cut. Minutes later, Christie proceeded to announce his intent to drop out of the race.
DeSantis was quick to agree with Christie’s remarks on Nikki Haley. He wrote on X, “I agree with Christie that Nikki Haley is going to get smoked.”
Trump, on the other hand, said he might like Christie again, he said on Truth Social, “I hear Chris Christie is dropping out of the race today—I might even get to like him again! Anyway, he was just caught on a hot mic making a very truthful statement.”
According to the latest poll by Suffolk University/Boston Globe/USA Today, Trump is leading the race against Haley by 19 points.
In a polling average made by RealClearPolitics, Trump has 43 percent of support in the Granite State, while Haley only has 29.3 percent.
[ORIGINAL STORY] On Wednesday, Christie tells a few dozen supporters, who assembled at a chapel in Windham, New Hampshire, that he is conceding.
The former governor said, “I would rather lose by telling the truth than lie in order to win.”
“It’s clear to me tonight that there isn’t a path for me to win the nomination, which is why I’m suspending my campaign.”
However, Christie seemed to not back down in criticizing Trump. He said, “No one will tell the truth about Donald Trump.”
“No one will tell the truth about his divisiveness, his stoking of anger for his own benefit.”
His decision comes after he repeatedly claimed that he is “not going anywhere”, denying rumors that he intends to resign from the race.
Before announcing his “painful” exit, Christie slammed New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu’s statement that his campaign was considering shutting down on CNN.
“It pains me to say this, but Gov. Sununu is a liar,” says Christie.
Christie had long been attempting to make it even in Republican primaries but repeatedly failed.
He announced his second attempt at the presidential contest last June. He previously tried to run in 2016 but failed to gather enough support to make it through the race.
