In defiance of a congressional subpoena, Hunter Biden appeared in private on Wednesday to give a deposition to Republican investigators who are looking into his financial affairs. Only in public, he maintained, would he testify.

The Republican-issued subpoena for the testimony behind closed doors was criticized by the Democratic president’s son, who said that material obtained from the interviews may be altered and disseminated with impunity.

The House Oversight and Accountability Committee chairman, Republican Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, has stated that Republicans anticipate “full cooperation” with the private deposition. In reaction to Hunter Biden’s lack of cooperation, Comer and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, informed reporters later on Wednesday that they will start investigating possible contempt of Congress proceedings.

Comer stated, “He just got into more trouble today.”

Republicans have been pursuing an impeachment investigation to link President Joe Biden to his son’s business affairs for several months. Concerns have been raised regarding the Biden family’s foreign business ethics, and senators maintain that their data shows a concerning picture of “influence peddling” in their transactions, especially with foreign clients.

“There is no evidence to support the allegations that my father was financially involved in my business because it did not happen,” Hunter Biden said.

Hunter’s declaration contradicts IRS whistleblower’s statements exposing the Biden family for plundering millions of dollars in private equity deals in Ukraine, China, Romania, and other countries.

GOP lawmakers also unraveled documents proving that Hunter leveraged his father’s position to make money.

In an investigative article published by Judicial Watch, key information on Biden’s foreign transactions was unraveled, including their corruption involvement.

According to their probe, “the biggest paydays for James and Hunter Biden came from China—specifically from the energy conglomerate CEFC China. The total amount, flowing to Biden-connected entities, notes the Comer Committee, is “over $8 million.”

Separately, a special counsel in charge of an ongoing investigation has charged Hunter Biden with crimes in two states.

In Delaware, he was accused of breaking laws prohibiting drug users from possessing firearms in 2018, a time when he disclosed he was battling with addiction. Additionally, this week, special counsel David Weiss filed nine new tax counts and additional allegations, alleging that Hunter Biden had orchestrated a plot to evade paying almost $1.4 million in taxes over three years.

When executing subpoenas to Hunter Biden and other Biden family members, House Republicans anticipate that a vote to formally establish their probe will strengthen their position in court.

“And when that happens, we’ll see what their excuse is then,” he continued.
