According to court records acquired by Fox News Digital, the federal government is suing convicted murderers and sex traffickers who got COVID-19 stimulus cheques, asking them to use the monies to pay reparations to the families of their victims.
In a week, Senate Republicans screamed foul after it was found that Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev received a $1,400 stimulus check under the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief plan known as the American Rescue Plan of 2021, which President Biden signed last March.
Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Tom Cotton (R-AR), and Ted Cruz (R-TX), presented an amendment on the floor at the time to prevent convicts from receiving checks, but it was defeated on a party-line vote of 49-50. Previous coronavirus relief legislation likewise did not include any provision prohibiting imprisoned felons from obtaining stimulus funds.
“Senate Democrats blocked my amendment to prevent prisoners, like the Boston Marathon bomber, from receiving government stimulus checks,” Cassidy said in a statement last week to Fox News Digital. “It is an insult to victims.”
Federal authorities in Massachusetts filed a motion Wednesday requesting the court to force Tsarnaev to turn up the $1,400 COVID relief money as well as any other assets in his inmate trust account to be used to the more than $101 million he owes his victims.
According to court records obtained by Fox News Digital, Tsarnaev is just one of several federal prisoners being prosecuted by the federal government in an attempt to guarantee that stimulus funds be utilized to pay their court-ordered reparations.
