Former president Barack Obama signals alarm that Joe Biden might fail to outrun Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential elections.
A source close to Obama said that the former president is well aware that “this is going to be a close race” and “feels that Democrats very well could lose.”
Obama’s comments reflect the growing concerns within the Democratic Party about Biden’s winnability in the next election.
Voter’s doubts are also strengthened as Biden fails to address economic woes, immigration crisis, and crime surge. Many Americans also blast the president for funding wars on Ukraine and Israel while failing to solve domestic issues.
Impeachment proceedings against his family, including lawsuits filed against his son Hunter also plague the elderly candidate.
For David Axelrod, Obama’s political adviser, Biden’s apparent physical and mental decline and very low favorable rating is “very, very dark news.“
“Job approval down, ratings generally down, most of the comparatives with Trump not good,” Axelrod said on a recent podcast.
Ohio-based progressive leader Nina Turner said Biden is losing support from young voters, especially from “communities of color.”
She also criticized Biden’s fans and called them “delusional.”
“The people in the bubble — I call them the brunch bunch — can continue to spin this. They do that at their peril,” she said. “What is happening on the streets is a lot different.”
News also report Biden’s 2020 campaign prominent donor Mike Novogratz expressed support to Democratic party primary challenger Representative Den Phillips.
Previous surveys reveal many voters are in favor of Trump against Biden. In the latest poll by Reuters/Ipsos this week, the GOP leader also defeats the 81-year-old president.
Trump also managed to win voters in swing states in 2024.
What’s worse for liberals, independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. managed to steal Biden’s votes and 60 percent of voters are calling for another option for the 2024 elections.
According to the CNN poll, Trump outvotes Biden by 5 percent in Georgia. He also leads by 10 points against the president in Michigan.
Many voters in Michigan and Georgia perceive their condition as worse due to Biden’s failed policies.
Biden is also behind Trump in other swing states according to a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll.
In a report by The Hill, “Biden is trailing Trump in several crucial swing states: by 11 points in North Carolina, by 7 points in Georgia, by 6 points in Wisconsin, by 5 points in Nevada, by 4 points in Michigan, and by 3 points in Arizona.”
