Since early last year, House and Senate liberals have been pushing to expand the U.S. Supreme Court from 9 to 13 justices, asserting that the Court has become dominated by conservatives with a 6-3 majority.
Leading the campaign to save ‘democracy’ is Rep. Adam Schiff, who is gunning for the California Senate. At this point, his plan centers on “abolishing the filibuster, getting rid of the electoral college, and packing the U.S. Supreme Court.”
Under the banner of ‘defending democracy’, what Schiff and fellow democrats intend is to shift the U.S. partisan politics into a “winner-take-all system,” according to an Op-Ed by Wall Street Journal.
In reality, this move has nothing to do with cleansing the Supreme Court from a “new generation of Jim Crow,” but what they meant was anything that the “far left likes.”
Schiff, who is leading in California Senate polls, wants a major overhaul of America’s justice system, primarily because of their controversial decisions of refusing work for same-sex weddings, turning down Biden’s student loan forgiveness, and the controversial overturning of the Roe v. Wade case, which guaranteed the right to an abortion..
The Democrats claim that the Supreme Court is full of Republican nominees and “adding four seats to the court is the only practical, proportional response to conservatives’ “theft” of the Supreme Court.”
However, this is not necessarily true, as reflected in the recent Court decision regarding the border standoff between Biden’s administration and the Texas government.
Republican lawmakers also voiced their opposition to expanding the Court.
According to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Democrats’ goal for the court, is to pack it with liberals who will rule the way they want.”
Cruz emphasized that the “Supreme Court should be independent, not inflated by every new administration.”
The Supreme Court has existed for more than 100 years with just nine justices, and its composition and ideologies have varied over time, all while upholding its commitment to independent judgment.
Additionally, conservative justices, which include Coney Barrett and Clarence Thomas, have long declared not to be influenced by political considerations.
Barrett once said, “[the court] is not comprised of a bunch of partisan hacks.”
Even President Joe Biden’s commission to study reforms on the U.S. Supreme Court reported a “profound disagreement” on whether the court should be expanded.
“For years the left has been desperate to pack the Court to promote their radical agenda. We must ensure that we stay true to the Court’s founding principles, maintain the precedent of nine justices, and keep the Democrats from their brazen attempts to rig our democracy,” blasted Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri)
