Donald Trump termed the targeting of his adult children by the Jan. 6 committee and the New York Attorney General “very unjust.” On January 6, Ivanka was called to testify before the committee, and the New York Attorney General has issued subpoenas to both Ivanka and Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric are integrally tied to their father’s businesses and leadership.

Former President Donald Trump has stated that his adult children are being investigated by the “vicious” January 6 committee and the New York Attorney General. “It’s a dreadful situation for my children. Extremely unjust,” Trump told The Washington Examiner in an interview published on Friday. “It’s a pity what’s going on. They’re doing this to draw attention away from how poorly our country is run. And they couldn’t care less. They’ll go after children.” Trump’s oldest three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric Trump, have long been closely intertwined to their father’s businesses and political career.

“You are extremely familiar with Ivanka and her attributes,” he told the newspaper. “It’s a travesty that they have to go through this.” Throughout his presidency, Donald Trump was accused of nepotism for placing his oldest daughter and her husband, Jared Kushner, to key posts despite having no prior qualifying experience.

Meanwhile, New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office has been looking into the Trump Organization’s financial activities. According to James, the investigation has discovered “strong evidence” that the Trump Organization used incorrect and misleading asset evaluations on several properties. Last Monday, she filed a lawsuit to enforce the subpoenas issued to Donald Trump and his children, Donald Jr. and Ivanka. According to James, Trump’s eldest two children were “closely involved in the transactions in issue.” Donald Trump Jr. is currently the Trump Organization’s executive vice president, while Ivanka Trump has held several high-level jobs, including project management and acquisitions.

According to court documents, Eric Trump previously took depositions with the attorney general’s office, during which he invoked his Fifth Amendment rights over 500 times. Donald Trump told The Washington Examiner that he believed James was investigating his businesses because she ran on the promise of “I’ll get Trump.” In his remarks on the Trump family, James emphasized that “no one is above the law” and pledged to continue the investigation in order to “uncover the truth and pursue justice.”
