On Tuesday, Elon Musk amplified a critical warning regarding the upcoming 2024 election by retweeting a message from his DogeDesigner X account. The tweet stated, “The election isn’t just about America—it’s about the future of civilization itself. A Kamala Harris win could be disastrous for civilization.”
Musk added his own endorsement of this sentiment, declaring, “That is my strong belief.”
This is not the first time Musk has expressed such concerns. Back in 2022, when he acquired Twitter, he emphasized the platform’s role in safeguarding democracy. He stated, “It’s important for the function of democracy. It’s important for the function of the United States as a free country among many other countries.
And to help, actually to help freedom in the world more importantly than the US. And so, I think it’s, the situational risk is decreased if Twitter the more we can increase the trust of Twitter as a public platform… This is not a way to make money. I think this is, my strong intuitive sense is to have a public platform that is maximally trusted and broadly inclusive is extremely important for the future of civilization.”
Musk has also conveyed his support for former President Trump, asserting that we are at a pivotal moment in civilization’s journey. He remarked, “I think we’re at a fork in the road of civilization’s destiny, and I think we need to take the right path, and I think you’re the right path. I think that’s what it comes down to.”
As one of the most influential thinkers of our time, Musk recognizes that the freedom to express ideas is essential for the survival of civilization. History has shown us the dire consequences of silencing dissent under authoritarian regimes. As Robert Kennedy Jr. aptly noted, “Throughout history the people censoring speech were never the good guys.”
It is also noteworthy that Musk has identified the actions of figures like George Soros as threats to civilization itself. In these turbulent times, the stakes have never been higher, and the need for open discourse has never been more critical.
