FOX News Media Proposes Trump-Harris Presidential Debate in Pennsylvania

In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming election, FOX News Media has formally reached out to both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, proposing to host a debate that could serve as a pivotal moment for both candidates. The network has suggested holding this debate in Pennsylvania on either October 24 or 27, with seasoned journalists Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum set to moderate.

In their correspondence, FOX News Media president and Executive Editor Jay Wallace, along with Vice President of Politics Jessica Loker, emphasized the significance of this debate, stating, “This would present an opportunity for each candidate to make his or her closing arguments.”

The proposal comes on the heels of a call from New York Times opinion senior editor David Swerdlick, who advocated for a Harris-Trump debate on FOX News in a recent article.

The format proposed by FOX News aligns closely with the criteria established during the CNN debate in June and the ABC debate in September. The network has outlined a 90-minute debate structure that includes two commercial breaks, with only Baier and MacCallum posing questions. A coin flip would determine the candidates’ podium placement and the order of closing statements. Notably, candidates would be required to stand behind podiums without any props or pre-written notes, and there would be no live audience present.

In addition to the debate details, the letter highlighted FOX News Channel’s impressive ratings, asserting that a substantial audience would be eager to tune in for this critical event. As noted, “Fox News Channel has been the No. 1 network in all of weekday evening TV,” underscoring the network’s dominance in the current media landscape.

As the election approaches, the potential for a Harris-Trump debate on FOX News could prove to be a significant opportunity for both candidates to engage directly with voters and articulate their visions for the future.
