Glenn Youngkin, Virginia’s new governor, assumed office and quickly dispelled suspicions that he was a phony who had cheated the numerous Republican and independent voters who had given him victory. Youngkin beat former Virginia governor and ex-DNC head Terry McAuliffe in part by campaigning against Covid requirements and the teaching of Critical Race Theory in schools. Many people were alarmed when Youngkin said in November that he would not only not oppose any local Covid mandates but would also not issue any new ones according to Trending Politics.

“Localities will have to make judgments based on how the legislation operates, and that will be up to individual decisions.” But, once again, you won’t see mandates from me from the governor’s office,” Youngkin added. However, on his first day in office on Saturday, Youngkin issued a clear statement that he was not a wolf in sheep’s clothing, as some people had feared: the new Virginia governor will repeal statewide Covid regulations immediately.

According to Axios, “Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed 11 executive orders during his inauguration ceremony on Saturday, including ones that repeal Virginia’s mask mandate for public schools and a COVID immunization requirement for state workers.” “Youngkin also signed an order prohibiting the teaching of critical racial theory, which was a primary emphasis of the 2021 campaign,” Axios said.

“On his first day in office, new Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin repealed the state mask law for public schools and repealed the covid vaccination obligation for state workers,” said sports commentator Clay Travis. “You’ve already done an excellent job. Elections matter, Virginia, and you made a good decision.” “Youngkin’s inaugural address, delivered from the South Portico overlooking the city of Richmond, relied heavily on rhetoric from his campaign for governor: that Virginia is not, but could be, ‘the best place to live, work, and raise a family,’ and that the outgoing party has subjugated public liberties,” the liberal Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
