Florida Governor Ron DeSantis just dropped a new epic campaign ad Monday evening, evoking the spirit of the movie, “Top Gun: Maverick.”
The ad, posted online by his wife, the First Lady Casey DeSantis, features Ron DeSantis taking on the corporate media and fighting back during exchanges that he has had with reporters while being Florida’s governor.
“Good morning ladies and gentlemen, this is your Governor speaking,” DeSantis begins. “Today’s training evolution: dogfighting. Taking on the corporate media.”
“The rules of engagement are as follows: Number one, don’t fire unless fired upon, but when they fire, you fire back with overwhelming force,” DeSantis continues in the ad.
“Does it say that in the bill?” DeSantis fires back at one reporter. “I’m asking you to tell me what’s in the bill.”
He continues with point number two.
“Number two, never ever back down from a fight,” DeSantis continues in the ad.
The ad cuts to a reporter asking, “If I could just complete the question though –.”
DeSantis fires back with, “So are you going to give a speech or ask the question?”
DeSantis then comes back to say, “Number three, don’t accept their narrative.”
“Wrong. It’s a fake narrative,” DeSantis slams another reporter. “I just disabused you of the narrative and you don’t care about the facts.”
DeSantis blasts another reporter, “It’s why people don’t trust people like you, because you peddle false narratives.”
The ends with DeSantis in the cockpit of a fighter jet with his son in his lap, who says, “Let’s turn and burn!”
DeSantis is running for re-election as Governor of Florida.
Politico reported:
According to four people connected to the governor and former president, DeSantis has not asked Trump for a formal endorsement and isn’t planning to. It’s a clear sign that DeSantis, who more than four years ago was a little-known congressman from northeast Florida, has risen high in the GOP stratosphere.
DeSantis’ reluctance to seek the former president’s public support comes as the Florida governor prepares for a likely 2024 White House bid, even if Trump also runs in 2024 — setting up a potential clash between two powerful figures in the GOP.
“[DeSantis is] a Cat 5 hurricane in Florida politics — and in a good way if you are a Republican,” said Anthony Pedicini, a veteran GOP consultant in Florida. “He is a force of nature.”
An endorsement from Trump, however, would not likely change DeSantis’ frontrunner status in Florida among his Florida supporters. Polls have consistently shown him leading his Democratic rivals. In straw polls in Wisconsin, Nevada, and the annual Western Conservative Summit survey, DeSantis has even topped Trump.
Dave Abrams, a spokesperson for DeSantis’ re-election campaign, did not comment on whether DeSantis is seeking Trump’s backing.
Trump has not officially announced if he is running for president in 2024 or not. He has said that he has made his decision, whatever that decision may be.
