A Brooklyn grade school teacher suffered a backlash after she wrote last Sunday about how “cool” her school is.
“There’s a group of swinger parents at the school where I teach, and this proves Brooklyn public schools are far cooler than private schools,” wrote Sarah Allen, who was teaching second-grade students in PS 372 in Gowanus.
However, not everyone thinks that’s “cool.”
One commenter blasted, “Why is that cool?”
Allen sarcastically replied, “If you don’t know, then you’re extremely uncool.”
A parent in the district responded to the inquiry of the Post and said, “The 90s called, and they want their definition of ‘cool’ back.”
Many parents wished Allen should have opted to hold the thoughts back to herself.
“It’s one thing having a private conversation with parents of a student — it’s another thing to share it on social media,” Yiatin Chu, a public school parent and state Senate candidate.
Chu added that sharing such private information could also damage parents’ trust in the teachers to discuss important matters.
“I find it strange that parents and teachers are having conversations about their sexual activity,” Chu added.
Another commenter wondered, “The real question is why [are] their bedroom activities so public that school personnel at their children’s school are privy to it?”
Sal Albanese, who formerly taught in public school from 1971 to 1982, noted how Allen’s post was “totally unprofessional” and warned that students could have seen her post.
“And what does she mean that public schools are cooler? Because private schools would look down on this? Of course, they would,” he added.
“It’s a very bizarre statement to put on [X] and it’s inappropriate.”
One parent shared her post and wondered if the teacher’s union supported these conversations between parents and teachers.
One dad, who was also an NYC high school teacher and union representative responded, “Must be fun PTA meetings.”
“Sarah congrats ur an internet star this week 🍷🍾 Do you have a Reddit handle where my wife & I can arrange a rendezvous ? Also, how do you feel about ball gags, hot wax & things of that nature? Do you use flash cards to explain swinging to the students?” commented one parent on Allen’s post.
Swinger refers to an individual who engages in consensual, non-monogamous sexual activities that are usually done with the consent of their partner. Swinger couples often participate in activities such as partner swapping, group sex, or attending swinger parties or clubs where sexual encounters with other consenting adults may occur.
