House Speaker Johnson on Trump’s Verdict: “SC Should Step In”

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) urges the Supreme Court to overturn the Manhattan jury’s sham ‘guilty’ decision on President Donald Trump’s hush money trial.

Johnson blasted Alvin Bragg’s weaponization of law against the left’s opponents and emphasized that the case only resulted in an erosion of public faith in America’s justice system.

“There’s a lot of developments yet to come, but I do believe the Supreme Court should step in, obviously, this is totally unprecedented—and it’s dangerous to our system,” the House Speaker argued.

The jury decided to rule that President Trump had indeed committed 34 counts of falsifying business records in order to cover up payments for porn star Stormy Daniels, which he vehemently denied and was proved unfounded by the evidence presented to Judge Juan Merchan’s ‘kangaroo court.’

The Louisiana representative noted that many SC justices are “deeply concerned” about Trump’s verdict.

“So, I think they will set this straight, but it’s gonna take a while,” he said.

Merchan scheduled the sentencing hearing on July 11, barely four days before Trump is expected to be officially nominated as GOP presidential nominee at the Republican National Committee’s convention in Milwaukee.

Legal analysts weighed on Johnson’s remarks and shared his sentiments.

Hans von Spakovsky, senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation, remarked in an interview with The Epoch Times, that he shares the House Speaker’s frustration at what he believes is an outright ‘miscarriage of justice’ against President Trump.

However, von Spakovsky also noted that Supreme Courts intervening in the matter is not possible soon as Trump’s team had to send the case to the appeals court first.

“There are certainly issues that give the Supreme Court jurisdiction over the state court conviction, given the fundamental violation of Donald Trump’s substantive due process rights under the U.S. Constitution in the way the trial judge and prosecution mishandled the case,” he said.

Meanwhile, Johnson also noted that the Democrats are dragging the case because they know fully well that “the process takes a while to play out.”

“The Democrats know that, of course, and they’re dragging it out. That was the whole objective. They want to try to bankrupt Donald Trump.”

He also described the entire New York trial as “outrageous” in his 20 years in practice as a litigator.

“The American people see it,” he continued.

“This is a purely political exercise, not a legal one. And everybody knows that. They know intuitively that it’s wrong. And the people are outraged.”
