A Florida businessman has pleaded guilty in Federal Court for attempting to extort $25 million from Florida Republican Congressman Rep. Matt Gaetz and his family in an exchange for making some unproven sexual allegations against the congressman go away.
According to Northwest Florida Daily News, “[Stephen] Alford, who had entered a not guilty plea Oct. 1, changed that plea at a 2 p.m., Monday hearing in Pensacola before U.S. Magistrate Elizabeth Timothy. He pleaded guilty to one of the three counts of wire fraud he was originally charged with.”
“A charge of tampering with evidence was thrown out. That charge resulted from Alford destroying a cellphone before federal agents could confiscate it,” the report added.
Alford participated in the extortion scheme and Rep. Gaetz’s father, Don Gaetz, was asked to contribute $25 million to this fraud scheme. If Don Gaetz agreed, he was promised a presidential pardon for Rep. Matt Gaetz.
Alford could be looking at 20 years in prison after his sentencing in February next year.
Ever since this story was ‘leaked’ by The New York Times, Rep.Gaetz has denied all the allegations of sexual impropriety and had asserted several times that this is an extortion attempt against him and his family.
In a March interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight Gaetz said, “What is happening is an extortion of me and my family — we received a text demanding a meeting wherein a person demanded $25 million in exchange for making horrible sex trafficking allegations against me go away.”
Most of the liberal media industrial complex slandered Rep. Matt Gaetz and accused him of ‘sexual misconduct’ as soon as The New York Times bombshell dropped. Without any verification and confirmation, almost everyone in the mainstream media and officials from the Democrat party started accusing Rep. Gaetz of unproven allegations. What is even more interesting is that there were no victims that came forward confirming these allegations but still, the media ran the allegations as if it were a reality.
At the same time, multiple victims were accusing then New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. But most of the same media outlets never reported anything on Cuomo who had actual allegations against him. Democrats made Cuomo a god-like figure for his “handling of COVID-19” and even awarded him with an Emmy Award while completely ignoring the several sexual misconduct allegations against him.
Now that the man attempting to extort Rep. Gaetz has pled guilty, very few of these mainstream media outlets have updated their stories and/or apologized for smearing the Republican lawmaker.
