Former President Donald Trump offered on Sunday to help CNN crush Fox News if CNN were to be more conservative. Trump has accused Fox News of pushing a Democratic agenda and told CNN that a “gold mine” awaits them if they continue to move by the new owners to be less leftist-biased.
Trump said, “Wow. Fox News is really pushing the Democrats and the Democrat agenda. Gets worse every single day.”
“So many Dems interviewed with only softball questions, then Republican counterparts get creamed. If low ratings CNN ever went conservative, they would be an absolute gold mine, and I would help them do so,” he said.
In what seems like a bizarre turn of events, Trump may be right about CNN going more conservative. The new majority owner of CNN is billionaire and Trump donor John Malone.
He is on record saying that CNN had lost its way and needs to be more centrist, more classic journalism.
Malone’s pick to help lead and run CNN is Christ Licht, who is already shaking up the network and getting rid of some of the more partisan hosts like Brian Stelter.
One CNN journalist told the Washington Post, “People are freaked out. It almost feels like there’s a pattern. Is there a purge going on? They seem to be sending a message: Watch what you say. Watch what you do. I think they’re hoping people will just guess what to do.”
Another employee said, “Longtime CNN personalities are disappearing, and the viewers don’t know why. It’s a really confusing and unsettling time from top to bottom at CNN. I don’t know anyone who is happy right now.”
The Hill reported:
In his Sunday post, Trump specifically lashed out at Fox News contributor Karl Rove, who has criticized Trump during recent appearances.
Rove, who was a senior adviser to former President George W. Bush, has criticized trump over his handling of classified information in the wake of the FBI’s search of his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, saying he had “no legal authority” to hold on to presidential records.
“RINO Karl Rove is unwatchable, very negative, and on all the time – has a big record of losing!” Trump wrote.
Others on the network have questioned Trump over the documents. Host Steve Doocy late last month asked why the former president had “secret stuff” recovered in the FBI search.
Trump often used to praise Fox News, especially during his time at the White House but recently the relationship between Fox News and Trump has shifted.
It will be very interesting to see what comes next at CNN. Brian Stelter has been let go, Jeffrey Toobin, as well, and John Harwood is gone, as well. Will CNN become more centrist, or even conservative?
Only time will tell.
