Letitia James’ $384,495 Campaign Funds Splurged on Extravagant Lifestyle

Political scientist Mel Witte was surprised as she began looking into Letitia James’ financial report during the last week of February.

New York Attorney General Letitia James recently “won” a $454 million ruling against former president Donald Trump.

James began her career as NY AG in 2018 and was later re-elected in 2022. She served as a “public advocate” in NYC for four years and as a NYC city council member for eight years.

Witte wasn’t expecting much as she thinks James has long served as a public official.

However, upon looking into the New York AG’s expenditures, she was left speechless.

In 2023 alone, the New York AG has spent $28,500 on hotels, with more than half of that going to a luxury hotel in Puerto Rico. During her five years as the state AG, James splurged $84,000 for airfare across the country, including renting a private jet.

Her meals cost $20,000 annually, ranging from $18 at Dunkin Donuts to $700 at a steakhouse in Brooklyn.

James spent thousands of dollars using Uber and Lyft, while tens of thousands were allocated to office supplies from Target to BJ’s wholesale.

Questionably, James labeled as “office” expenses the $7,000 spent at a nightclub in NYC.

About $65,000 went to the vague categorization of “reimbursements” and “campaign consultants,” which she could have spent on anything.

Witte clarified that although James isn’t breaking any law, it raises questions on how high she has set the standard for Trump in his civil fraud case while she loosely plays on “legitimate campaign expenses.”

Wondering where all this money came from?

During the election for NY AG two years ago, James recorded 32,500 receipts, where 62 percent came from out of state. Why would she need donations from out of state when she already had secured the position?

Answer: Ghost donors.

These ghost donors are sophisticated bot applications that source and utilize names and addresses of real Americans, making donations to political campaigns while circumventing campaign finance laws. The monetary contribution was made in thousands of small-dollar amounts which can be overlooked easily.

One example was Suzanne from Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Suzanne seems to be a consistent fan of James and other democratic representatives. In 2022, she made 3,232 donations to Act Blue. Suzanne also donated to Kathy Hochul.

Surprisingly, her name had also appeared on donors’ lists in Nevada, Idaho, and Virginia.

During Witte’s investigation, she discovered that James’ 2022 donor list had AT LEAST 200+ donations at the federal level 2022, and many had over 2,000.
