It is a slow news day today.

There are no relevant updates on the hate crime that cost Cayler Ellingson’s life. He was an 18-year-old who Shannon Brandt ran over. Brandt thought Cayler was a part of a Republican extremist group. Unfortunately, Brandt was released on a $50,000 bail. Keep in mind Shannon Brandt admitted to police he mowed down the teen due to their political dispute.

Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old who defended himself against pedophiles in a Black Lives Matter raid on Aug. 25, was considered a flight risk. He wasn’t released until November because his bail was set at $2 million. Both Rittenhouse and Brandt are white males; one was an adult and admitted to turning a teenager into road kill, while the other was a teenager defending himself. A teenager was considered a flight risk, but the one who admitted to killing a teenager was not considered a flight risk. BLM is right about one thing; our system is broken.

The Sunshine State, Florida, might see a significant hurricane next week.

Just the News reported:

“Tropical Storm Ian, the ninth named storm of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season, was reportedly seeing wind gusts of up to 45 miles per hour on Saturday morning south of Jamaica.”

According to forecasters, the storm might make landfall near Tampa, Florida. The state has seen its fair share of big cyclones, most notably Andrew, Michael, and Irma, just to name a few. Governor Ron DeSantis has issued a State of Emergency.

“Governor DeSantis has requested a federal pre-landfall Emergency Declaration in anticipation of impacts from the storm. This declaration will make available important resources and support, as well as free up funding sources for emergency protective measures. Under this emergency order, members of the Florida National Guard will be activated and on standby awaiting orders.”

Hopefully, Florida will be lucky, and the Scottish-named storm skips over Tampa and hits Disney World’s latest construction sites. The dissolution of Reedy Creek is supposed to happen in the summer of 2023. Reedy Creek gave Disney autonomy over the land for its new park. The Reedy Creek Improvement Act was passed in 1967.

“The Reedy Creek independent special district would serve as its own governmental authority. Further, the Reedy Creek Improvement District would have the same authority and the same responsibilities as a county government, meaning Reedy Creek could levy taxes, write its own building codes, create its own infrastructure, maintain itself, and build anything it wanted.”

“Anything it wanted” also included airports. The clock is ticking, and Disney World still has a lot of unused lands that were meant for the original EPCOT. During Disney’s D23 expo, Disney announced a few projects are in the works.

“World Showcase, which has already been a part of this park, is now joined by World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery. The construction on these three lands has been ongoing, and now, we are beginning to see certain aspects of the theme park taking shape.”

Once the idea of the original EPCOT was scrapped, Reedy Creek should have also been removed. Reedy Creek serves as a great example of questionable dealings within regional government.

Keep in mind the whole point for Reedy Creek was because Walt Disney wanted to build EPCOT. He didn’t care about making another amusement park because he had done that already. Disney himself was a visionary. He was mocked for building Walt Disney Land in California. He was mocked for making a feature-length animated film. “Snow White” was called “Disney’s Folly,” but the movie itself was 1937’s “Titanic.”

EPCOT was meant to be a futuristic city showcasing American ingenuity, something that current franchise owners spit on. However, Disney was the only one who truly believed in EPCOT’s potential. When he died, the original idea of EPCOT died with him. Reedy Creek should have also died, but it is an excellent example of when questionable dealings within regional governments go unchecked.
