Again, the American people see the consequences of hiring a high-ranking government official in the name of “diversity” rather than merit or qualifications for the job.
Sam Brinton is a former senior Department of Energy (DOE) official and the first “non-binary” person employed by the federal government.
Now said diversity hire is headed to a Minnesota court to face charges of stealing a woman’s luggage.
According to Fox News, “Former senior Department of Energy (DOE) official Sam Brinton is scheduled to appear in a Minnesota court on Wednesday to face charges stemming from a September baggage theft.
“In late October, Brinton was charged with stealing a woman’s luggage worth $2,325 near the baggage claim area at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) on Sept. 16. According to a criminal complaint filed in a Hennepin County court, Brinton faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine as a result of the incident.”
After seeing the media coverage of the Minnesota charges last November, the Las Vegas police department reopened an unsolved case involving a theft of a bag worth $3,670 at Harry Reid International Airport in Vegas.
The investigators in the case “immediately recognized” Brinton as the suspect in the case from video footage of the July 6th incident.
The bag contained $1,700 in jewelry, $500 worth of makeup, and $850 in clothing. Brinton appeared in Clark County, Nevada in December to face those charges. He was released on $15,000 bail.
The Minnesota hearing, originally scheduled for December 19, will take place today, February 15.
Brinton’s legal counsel requested the delay. The judge rejected several requests to allow Brinton to attend remotely because he was dealing with “employment issues.”
As of December 12, Brinton departed the DOE but the agency did not comment on the reason.
“The current District Policy does not allow for remote appearances to be conducted for Felony 1st Appearances on the Property Drug Calendar with the only exception given to inmates in the custody of the Department of Corrections of the State of Minnesota,” Judge Gina Brandt wrote to Brinton’s lawyers in December. “Therefore, I must deny your request again.”
Some lawmakers weighed in on the situation. A group of them sent a letter to the DOE telling the department to “set aside petty politics and appoint only the most qualified and dedicated individuals to influence America’s energy sector.”
Representative Jim Banks of Indiana said in a statement to Fox News Digital, “The reported details of Sam Brinton’s thievery are bizarre and disturbing. Americans deserve transparency about who and what their taxpayer dollars are funding.”
The chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming questioned Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm about the DOE’s hiring practices and vetting processes for new employees and appointees.
Barrasso told Fox News Digital, “It is clear as day that felons should not hold security clearances. For months, I’ve been demanding answers from the Department of Energy on their failed security clearance process. Secretary Granholm has provided none.”
Ignore and deflect. Those are the tenets of the Biden administration. If you can’t provide a plausible explanation for something, don’t. Just ignore it until it goes away.
