The office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg refused the demand by top GOP House lawmakers On Thursday for documentation and testimony linked to his probes into Donald Trump’s potential indictment.
The general counsel for Manhattan District Attorney, Leslie Dubeck, sent a letter to the Chair of the Judiciary Committee and Republican Rep. from Ohio, Jim Jordan, the Oversight Chair and Republican Rep. from Kentucky, James Comer, and the House Administration Chair and Republican Rep. from Wisconsin, Bryan Steil.
In the letter, she stated that the GOP demand is an exceptional probe into an ongoing proceeding, and called it “an unprecedented inquiry into a pending local prosecution.”
The letter stated:
“The investigation is one of thousands conducted by the Office of the District Attorney in its long history of pursuing justice and protecting New Yorkers.”
The letter further added:
“If charges are brought at the conclusion, it will be because the rule of law and faithful execution of the District Attorney’s duty require it.”
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg argued that:
“The Letter’s allegation that the DA’s Office is pursuing a prosecution for political purposes is unfounded, and regardless, the proper forum for such a challenge is the Courts of New York, which are equipped to consider and review such objections.”
On Thursday this week, The House Judiciary Republican Party acknowledged and stated:
“Alvin Bragg should focus on prosecuting actual criminals in New York City rather than harassing a political opponent in another state. Make Manhattan Safe Again!”
