According to a new Washington Free Beacon poll, 88 percent of the black voter base in Maryland support the Republican Governor’s “refund the police” initiative. The same proposal that many state Democrat lawmakers call “divisive” and “misguided”
Maryland’s Republican Governor Larry Hogan proposed an initiative to “provide greatly increased funding to state and local police agencies” the Free Beacon poll shows that around 64 percent of black voters in the state “strongly support” this proposal while only 24 percent “somewhat support” this refunding the police proposal.
Similar trends are seen amongst Hispanics and white voters. Around 89 percent of White voters are supporting this movement and 74 percent of Hispanics prefer refunding the police.
Gov. Hogan announced his proposal to invest an additional $150 million into local and state law enforcement. The Democrat speaker of the state house Adrienne Jones then protested this initiative calling it “politicization of public safety.”
“The governor’s misguided rhetoric of ‘re-fund the police’ is beneath him and the dignity of his office,” said Jones.
The State’s Democrat Senate president Bill Ferguson had similar allegations against the Republican governor calling the plan “divisive rhetoric”
This plan also includes two emergency bills to combat violent crimes in Baltimore according to the Washington Free Beacon. As homicide and violent crimes are on the fast rise in the city.
“People are being shot nearly every single day in Baltimore City, and we all have an obligation to do something about it right now. With all of the actions we have announced today, I want those families and all of the victims of this violence to know that we will not stop pursuing those criminals who are terrorizing our community.” Governor Hogan said in a statement
The state’s voters overwhelmingly support Gov. Hogan’s policies but the democrat-controlled legislature is trying everything to block this legislature from passing.
