New Poll Indicates That Almost Half Of The Americans Believe Donald Trump Should Halt His 2024 Campaign Following His Indictment

As the former U.S. President Donald Trump steps up his campaign for the 2024 elections, new poll reveals that, even though over 50% of Americans think he deliberately did something unconstitutional after his indictment. However, many Americans still believe this indictment is politically motivated.

On Tuesday, Trump was brought to trial in New York City on accusations arising from plausible hush money payouts to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016, marking him the first U.S. president in history prosecuted on criminal charges.

According to the latest Ipsos/ABC News poll, 48% of Americans believe Trump should suspend his presidential campaign in response to the indictment, up 5 percentage points from the week prior. 

According to the survey, 53% of poll respondents believe that Trump intentionally committed unlawful acts. 

According to the survey, 20% of voters believe Trump committed no wrongdoing, while 11% believe he seemed improper but not purposefully illegal.

The poll by ABC/Ipsos also revealed that 52% of respondents consider the charges serious, which is a 2 percentage point increase from the previous week’s poll. 

On the contrary, 39% of respondents do not view the charges against Trump as serious. 

In light of Trump’s indictment, 45% of Americans expressed their belief that Trump should face criminal charges. This marks a 5-point increase from the previous week’s poll. 

The poll also disclosed that 32% of respondents do not believe that charges should be brought against him.

The survey also revealed that 47% of participants believe that the indictment was driven by political motives, while 32% of them think that politics did not influence the criminal investigation. 

Specifically, when broken down by political affiliation, 16% of Progressives, 48% of the Independents, and 79% of GOP members expressed this belief.
