NFL Hands Off Harrison Butker’s Commencement Speech but Cashes In on His Merch

Kansas City Chiefs Kicker and NFL icon Harrison Butker made headlines last week after upholding his conservative and pro-life beliefs during a commencement speech at Benedictine College.

Feminists and abortionists hit Butker for calling out Biden on his stance on protecting the unborn, IVF, homosexuality, and women.

In her column on “Abortion, Everyday,” feminist author Jessica Valentini ranted, “So let’s be very clear about this commencement speech: Butker’s remarks weren’t ‘fringe’ or radical — they’re the law. He was simply saying out loud what Republicans have already codified…”

The National Football League responds through its chief diversity and inclusion officer, Jonathan Beane, saying Butker’s “views are not those of the NFL as an organization,” and insisted that they are pro-inclusion, claiming that this has made the league “stronger.”

Funnily enough, while the league distances itself from the opinions of the Kansas City Chiefs kicker, they also capitalized and exploited the player’s merchandise.

According to NFL.com, Butker’s jersey sales skyrocketed and topped the sales similar to the amount garnered from star quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ merchandise.

Even Rally House, an officially licensed sports gear seller, said that their Kansas outlet had sold out of Butker shirts.

“[Butker] has sold more than Kelce and Mahomes today, just the demand after the speech, it’s been men and women, it’s been both calling to get his jersey,” store manager Aaron Lewis shared.

Mr. Butker is a staunch Catholic and was never shy of his faith.

During his speech in Atchison, Kansas, he paid tribute to his “beautiful wife” and acknowledged her sacrifices as a mother and a wife.

Despite criticisms, his fellow NFL stars backed Butker’s views.

His teammate Chris Jones wrote on X, “I love you @buttkicker7! My brotha.”

When another X user asked Jones if he would delete his comment amid backlash, the defensive tackle responded, “Negative.”

Cole Beasley, who recently retired from the NFL, quipped he was “with Butker.”

Even Gracie Hunt, a wife, and daughter of Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt, supported the kicker and said, “Well, I can only speak from my own experience, which is I’ve had the most incredible mom who had the ability to stay home and be with us as kids growing up. And I understand that there are many women out there who can’t make that decision. But for me and my life, I know it was really formative, and in shaping me and my siblings into who we are.”

She also understood where Butker is coming from, she added: “For sure, and I really respect Harrison and his Christian faith and what he’s accomplished on and off the field.”
