As Elon Musk remains at the helm of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a legendary golfer is showing his support.

Since President Donald Trump took office in January, the agency has been actively eliminating waste, fraud, and corruption within the federal government.

On Tuesday, Phil Mickelson took to social media to express his belief that Americans should appreciate Musk’s efforts.

“It’s incredibly kind and generous of Elon Musk to help America achieve fiscal responsibility. We all owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude,” Mickelson wrote. “Nikola Tesla was unappreciated during his lifetime despite his many contributions to humanity. I hope Elon receives the recognition he deserves while he’s still with us.”

Mickelson shared his message while quoting a post in which Musk stated that DOGE savings had surpassed $4 billion per day.

Earlier on Tuesday, DOGE announced that it had deactivated over 200,000 credit cards linked to more than a dozen federal agencies after an audit revealed they were either unused or unnecessary.

Last month, Musk spoke at Trump’s first Cabinet meeting, where he announced his goal of identifying $1 trillion in savings through DOGE to help reduce the national debt, which currently stands at approximately $36.5 trillion.

Musk criticized the $2 trillion deficit, warning that America “simply cannot sustain” that debt. He stated that achieving $1 trillion in savings is possible “unless we’re stopped.”

Mickelson joined LIV Golf in 2022, a league financially backed by Saudi investors. His move came just over a year after making history as the oldest major champion by winning the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island in May 2021, departing from the PGA Tour in the process.
