A California city council overwhelmingly voted to declare the city a “constitutional Republic City” to protect the constitutional rights of its citizens amid the constant attempts of tyrannical overreach by the federal and state governments.
The city of Oroville is located in Northern California, about 70 miles north of the state’s capital, Sacramento.
“What we are doing is protecting our citizens’ rights as much as we can on the local level,” the city’s Vice Mayor Scott Thomson told Fox News.
“In a way, we are acting as a sanctuary city for our citizens and their rights and freedoms protected by the U.S. and state constitutions,” he said. “Gavin Newsom modeled this type of declaration for us when he declared San Francisco a sanctuary city for what he believed to be overreach by the federal government against his citizens.” He added.
This measure was passed by an overwhelming majority of 6-1 by the Oroville City Council earlier this month. The resolution allows the city to opt-out of “any executive orders issued by the state of California or by the United States federal government that are overreaching or clearly violate our constitutionally protected rights.” Said Thomson.
This resolution specifically states that the city believes in “the separation of powers, individual rights and the rule of law” as per the United States Constitution. “including the freedom for local government to have local control over issues related to the citizens who reside within the City’s jurisdictional boundaries.”
Thomson told Fox News “Each and every mandate will be handled differently. Although we realize this virus is serious; we also believe that protecting the constitutional freedoms our citizens have is also something we take seriously. Our state representatives have been trying to get through to our governor for him to hear that just because something works well for big cities like Sacramento or San Francisco does not mean that the same thing holds true for rural areas like Oroville,”
City’s attorney Scott Huber says that the resolution can be modified at any time which will not put the city at risk of losing funding in the long run.
As Gavin Newsom’s regime continues to enforce tyrannical left-wing policies in the state, many other cities are considering this an option. Oroville will be one of the first states to take this measure amid Democrat’s power grab.
In October, the state announced vaccine mandates for kids under which children will be forced to show proof of vaccination to attend public schools.
This announcement lead to massive protests and more than 1000 Californians from across the state protested in Sacramento to voice their concerns against the mandates.
