Thousands of pro-life leaders from across the country joined in Jackson, Mississippi to “pray together for life” as the United States Supreme Court (SCOTUS) is scheduled to hear opening arguments in the state’s pro-life law on Wednesday.
Mississippi Republican Governor Tate Reeves joined the president of Family Research Council, Tony Perkins, the President of the Susan B. Anthony List, Mike Farris, the President of Alliance Defending Freedom, evangelist, Alveda King, and many others today at 7 pm, central time.
“For decades, pro-life Americans have prayed and worked to see Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that legalized abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy, overturned,” a press statement said about the event. “This decision could be the case that sends Roe to the dustbin of history.”
The case involves a challenge to Mississippi’s Gestational Age Act, a bill that limits abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy similar to Texas’ fetal heartbeat bill which poses a significant threat to the Roe v. Wade decision of 1973.
“By 15 weeks, children in the womb have fully formed noses and lips, eyelids and eyebrows; they can suck their thumb, and even feel pain. The U.S. is one of seven nations – including China and North Korea – that allow late-term abortion on demand more than halfway through pregnancy, well after unborn babies feel pain. Americans overwhelmingly reject such extreme policies, yet their elected lawmakers are shackled to Supreme Court precedents that, in effect, allow unlimited abortion up until birth – these are needlessly divisive and decades out of step with medicine and technology.” Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement
Many woke pro-choice organizations and activists like Planned Parenthood, are concerned about this bill and the conservative majority in the SCOTUS potentially overturning Roe.
After the SCOTUS voted to allow the Texas fetal heartbeat law, many pro-choice activists share similar concerns.
