Democrat Representative Blasts Biden In Campaign Ad

Dem Rep. Marcy Kaptur (Ohio) is trying to save her seat by distancing herself from President Joe Biden in a new campaign ad.
The ad says: “Joe Biden’s letting Ohio solar manufacturers be undercut by China. But Marcy Kaptur’s fighting back, working with Republican Rob Portman. Protecting our jobs. Communist China’s not happy.
“Neither is extremist J.R. Majewski. He opposes Marcy’s all-of-the-above energy plan. Majewski let Ohio energy jobs die, but Marcy fights for every Ohio job. Marcy Kaptur: She doesn’t work for Joe Biden. She works for us.”
Kaptur is one of several Democrats who are facing tough reelection battles in 2022 due to their support for Biden’s policies. She is currently the only Democrat representing Ohio in Congress.
Portman, meanwhile, is a popular Republican senator from Ohio who is not up for reelection until 2024. He has been a vocal critic of China’s trade practices.
Majewski is a little-known Democrat who is running against Kaptur in the primary. He has been endorsed by several progressive groups, but he is not seen as a serious threat to Kaptur.
Kaptur, who is up for reelection in a competitive district, accused Biden of allowing Chinese solar manufacturers to “undercut” their Ohio counterparts.
She went on to say that she is “fighting back” against these policies and touted her record of standing up to China on trade.
The ad is a sign that Democrats are willing to distance themselves from the president ahead of the midterm elections, especially in battleground states like Ohio that could determine control of Congress.
Kaptur’s seat won’t be an easy victory. Kaptur’s seat is rated as a “toss-up” by the Cook Political Report, and her race will be one to watch in the 2018 midterms.
In the ad, which was released on Monday, Kaptur criticizes Biden for his role in allowing Chinese solar manufacturers to “undercut” their Ohio counterparts.
“Joe Biden’s letting Ohio solar manufacturers be undercut by China, but Marcy Kaptur’s fighting back,” the ad’s narrator says. “As the co-chair of the Congressional Manufacturing Caucus, Kaptur’s leading the charge to stop China’s cheating.”
The ad goes on to tout Kaptur’s support for President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Chinese solar panels, a move that she says will help level the playing field for Ohio manufacturers.
“Marcy Kaptur is fighting for Ohio jobs,” the narrator concludes. “That’s why she’s against Joe Biden.”
The ad is part of a six-figure buy and will air on TV and digital platforms in the Cleveland and Toledo media markets, according to a Kaptur campaign aide.
The poster is recognized not only for its harsh criticism of Biden but also for the explicit mention of Trump. In recent weeks, several Democrats have avoided inquiries about whether they want Biden to run again or said they would not support him.
Recently, the president and his party have seen several developments that are considered positive, including the passage of a sweeping reconciliation package by Democrats. However, he is still stuck in low approval ratings.
