Speaker Johnson’s Border Visit Exposes Biden’s Epic Failure in Border Crisis

Speaker Mike Johnson, together with 60 GOP lawmakers, visited Eagle Pass, Texas on Wednesday, as Republican and Democratic Senators discussed a bipartisan border agreement to finalize funding for Ukraine, Israel, and border security.

Republican House representatives head to the southern border in Texas to witness the migrant catastrophe Biden’s open border policy has led.

“Last month alone, we saw the most illegal crossings in recorded history. It is an unmitigated disaster, a catastrophe. And what’s more tragic is that it’s a disaster of the president’s own design,” says Johnson (R-La.) during a press interview.

The Speaker lashed out at the Biden administration for laying out the “welcome mat to illegal immigrants, smugglers and cartels.”

“He is responsible for the grave threat to our national security and our nation’s sovereignty that these policies have created.”

Johnson also cited Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy to mitigate the crisis.

“This administration should reinstate the Remain in Mexico policy, rather than expanding parole authority to an unprecedented scale. The president should end catch and release and stop the abuse of our parole and asylum systems.”

The Eagle Pass, which was once considered a remote port of entry, has now become the center of President Biden’s epic blunder on migration policy.

Johnson, who was speaking on behalf of the House Republicans during the event, threatened to shut down government negotiations between the Biden administration if they failed to stop the illegal migrant surge.

“If President Biden wants a supplemental spending bill focused on national security, it better begin by defending America’s national security. It begins right here on our southern border.”

House Republicans also discussed with officials in Eagle Pass, who have been bombarded by thousands of migrants coming mainly from Latin American countries in the past months.

In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Johnson bashed President Joe Biden for sleeping on his job as migrants continue to flock to the southern border.

“This catastrophe can come to an end if the Biden administration will do its job, and they refuse to do it,” he said.

The House Speaker added that this [migrant] problem will not be solved by funding alone.

“This is not about sending more money down here, it’s about changing the policy, and the White House seems not to understand that.”

The House GOP lawmakers remain steadfast in the provisions included in the bill, H.R.2, which will revive most policies implemented during the Trump administration, such as building borders and enforcing new restrictions on migrants seeking asylum.

The visit is also in time for the upcoming impeachment proceedings against Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

In early December, US Customs and Border Protection halted operations on international railway crossings in Eagle Pass and El Paso to utilize other personnel to aid in processing the flock of migrants trying to enter the country.
