Ted Cruz Wants McConnell to Step Down After Sell-out on Border ‘Betrayal’ Bill

A coalition of Senate Republicans slams Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for authorizing the border betrayal bill, calling for his immediate resignation.

Senator Ted Cruz joined the six GOP senators and shared his frustration with the negotiations on the supplemental funding bill for border security and financial aid for Ukraine.

“I think it is,” this is Cruz’s response when probed by journalists if he thinks Mr. McConnell has to go.

Cruz added that other senate members are supporting their call for a leadership challenge.

“I think a Republican leader should actually lead this conference and should advance the priorities of Republicans,” added Mr. Cruz, who has been a vocal critic of Mr. McConnell since 2013.

Six other Republican senators joined Cruz at his press conference:

  1. Sen. Rick Scott (R-Florida)
  2. Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah)
  3. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin)
  4. Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio)
  5. Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kansas)
  6. Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Missouri)

On Tuesday, McConnell announced that the border agreement, which is a lot intended to fund Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, is dead in the Senate.

McConnell remarked, “We have no real chance to make a law.”

The Senate will debate the bill on Wednesday, hoping to convince 60 senators to support the legislation for it to move forward. However, Senate Republicans have already been campaigning against it.

Cruz also remarked that after suffering losses in the 2022 midterms, he urged fellow Senate Republicans to vote for a new leader.

“We lost a seat in the Senate, and we barely got a majority in the House. And I stood up and said in any ordinary organization, when you’re faced with failure, if you’re running a business and you lose $50 million, you don’t just say, ‘Hey, everything’s great; let’s keep doing it.’ No, you sit down and say, ‘What are we doing wrong?’” Cruz blasted.

He further pointed out that McConnell’s failure to lead has resulted in the Senate’s mess and that the border betrayal bill was “designed to lose.”

Social Media Agrees

Many netizens took to X to express their opinion on McConnell.

Laura Loomer wrote on X, “Most of our members feel that we’re not going to be able to make a law here.”

She further said that the Senate Minority Leader is now coming to terms that nobody wants his fake “border bill.”

Sen. Mike Lee shared that the Democrats are saying that McConnell drafted the deal.

He added, “If true, that speaks volumes.”

One X user said, “The View is being dropped, Ronna is resigning, and there are calls for McConnell to resign.”

“Oh Happy Day”

John Rust, who is gunning for a senate seat, said: “The border “deal” proposed by Washington insiders is just more proof that Mitch McConnell needs to step down. I’m calling on him to resign from leadership – will my opponent Jim Banks join me?”
