ABC’s daytime show “The View” may be saying bye for good to co-host Joy Behar.
Behar mentioned her retirement plans in an interview for the nonfiction book “Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View.”
“I have a three-year contract,” Behar said. “But that doesn’t mean I can’t leave if I want to because they can’t really do anything to me at this point.”
“I don’t see myself staying for more [time]. That’s it! I could be wrong. If I’m as fabulous in [2022] as I am now, I’ll think about it. But the chances of that happening…You know, time marches on. I’m not a kid.”
Many people have expressed relief at the news she may be retiring soon.
The contract is nearing its end for Behar.
Behar has constantly been in hot water for her ignorant or hypocritical comments and takes she makes on “The View.”
In May of 2020, she called former President Donald Trump a “disgusting racist” and suggested that anyone who follows him might also be one.
Many people do not find Behar funny or insightful and comment on how hateful most of her comments are.
Behar was called out a few years ago after denying that she ever wore blackface makeup. In an episode where the co-host interviewed Donald Trump Jr., he called her out for the instance.
“[President Trump] called some Mexicans rapists, he attacked the handicapped, he bragged about it,” she said. “We heard the ‘Access’ tape, where he bragged about grabbing women by their genitalia.”
“We’ve all done things that we regret, I mean, if we’re talking about bringing a discourse down, Joy, you’ve worn blackface,” he responded.
“No, I have not,” Behar shot back.
“I know blackface when I see it and that was not blackface,” moderator Whoopi Goldberg eventually interjected.
After the show, Trump Jr. took to Twitter and shared a picture of Behar dressed up for a Halloween party from the 1970s.
“Excuse me. Excuse me. The Black community had my back. They know that that was not blackface, that was homage.”
In a July 2022 interview with Time, Behar addressed her costume and said, “For me, it was like, ‘Look at how pretty I can look as a woman dressed like this.’ It wasn’t anything close to blackface. It was bronzer, which I used with my natural curly hair. And the Black community had my back because they understand what blackface is.”
Behar isn’t the only co-host who has had to apologize for the comments she made.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg was actually suspended from the show earlier this year, after making comments on the Holocaust.
She has not officially announced her retirement, but it is nearing time for her contract to be up.
