Roger Waters, former Pink Floyd frontman, appeared live on CNN and called out their propaganda claims one by one.
The episode was hosted by commentator Michael Smerconish and Waters exposed the CNN audience to things they are not typically allowed to hear.
The interview took place a month into the North American leg of Waters’ “This Is Not A Drill” tour. A wide array of topics were covered including the relationship between China and Taiwan, the war in Ukraine, and Biden’s war crimes.
Smerconish started the interview by asking Waters why he included Joe Biden in a montage of “war criminals” featured in his live set.
Waters responded, “Well, he’s fuelling the war in Ukraine. That is a huge crime. Why won’t the United States of America encourage Volodymyr Zelenskyy to negotiate, obviating the need for this horrific, horrendous war?”
Smerconish pushed back and said that Waters was looking at the situation backward the singer disagreed and referred to the “action and reaction of NATO pushing right up to the Russian border.” He compared it to a hypothetical situation in which China set nuclear missiles into Canada or Mexico.
Waters discussed the introduction to his “This Is Not A Drill” shows. A warning is displayed that reads, “If you’re one of those ‘I love Pink Floyd, but I can’t stand Roger’s politics’ people, you might do well to f*ck off to the bar right now. Thank you, and please enjoy the show.”
Waters said the message displayed is a way of “setting things straight.” He also went on to say that “It also encourages a lot of the people who’ve come to the show because they have listened to everything I’ve written since, you know, 1965 or wherever I started writing songs. So, they do know what my politics are and they do understand where my heart is and they understand sort of why I’m there.”
In his show, he comments on police brutality, and abortion, and criticizes Trump, as well as Biden.
Smerconish asked if people had to buy into the message if they go to his shows.
Waters said that he recognizes people’s humanity and he doesn’t care who goes to his shows or that they agree with him 100%.
Smerconish and Waters argued about Russia and Ukraine and their role in wars current and past.
Waters told Smerconish that he was believing “his sides propaganda.”
Smerconish also suggested that China was “too busy encircling Taiwan.”
Waters responded quickly and said, “They’re not encircling Taiwan!”
“Taiwan is part of China. And that’s been absolutely accepted by the whole of the international community since 1948 and if you don’t know that, you’re not reading enough. Go and read about it.”
The “This Is Not A Drill Tour” for North America starts in Washington D.C. and will end on October 8 in Dallas, Texas.
