Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson seems to change his tune on former President Donald Trump as he props up the ‘big ovation’ the GOP leader receives each time he enters the WWE and UFC ring.
Johnson, joined by WWE President Nick Khan, was interviewed by Fox News on his recent board appointment with the TKO Group, the parent company of the WWE and UFC.
Fox and Friends Weekend co-host Will Cain probed Khan and The Rock if the Republican leading nominee could return to WWE TV after his recent appearances at UFC events.
“We welcome all people in WWE and UFC, so we don’t see ourselves as a political entity in any way shape or form…, Red states we sell out, blue states we sell out. It’s not what we’re focused on,” said Khan.
The WWE president emphasized, “What we’re focused on is the in-ring product and how it delivers to our fans. If politicians are fans of our product, they are welcome.”
The Fox host also asked the two TKO leaders if a showdown between The Rock and Trump was possible. The Fast and Furious actor laughed at the thought, while Khan responded, “Listen, The Rock against Donald Trump, I don’t know how well that would work in the ring for Donald Trump.”
The Rock interrupted and said, “How about that ovation he gets when he comes out?!”
Before joining the TKO Group, both parties invited Johnson to run for the 2024 elections, but the actor turned the offer down.
“I’m honored. I’m not a politician, never had the intentions to be a politician.”
“As all this continues to take shape and form, and I get it, especially ramping up into this year in particular with an election year. I actually got approached by both parties. One after the other.
“I said, then, as I say now, ‘I’m honoured, thank you. The most important thing I’m doing now is being a daddy to my little girls.’ I like school drop-offs and I like pick-ups. I like that and I know if I were to ever go down that road, which I have no intention to, all that goes away, and I don’t want that to go away,” said Johnson.
In November 2023, Johnson, during an interview with Joe Rogan for his podcast, expressed that he can’t think of any friends who explicitly support President Joe Biden.
He said, “Dude, it’s the craziest thing.”
“I have friends who support Trump. I have friends who support Biden.”
To which Rogan cut him off and asked if he “really [has] friends who support Biden.”
The wrestling champion laughed and said, “come on.”
He further said, “Well, no. No. No.”
“Here’s what I do, I have friends. Thank you, that’s a good check.”
The Rock explained further that he did have friends who may support Biden, but merely because they are loyal to the Democratic Party or have a progressive instead of a conservative political view.
